Founder, Cross + Compass, PLC

Steven C. Cross is the founder of Cross + Compass, PLC, where he helps Northern Michigan families and property owners with estate planning, real estate law, and QDROs. He earned his undergraduate degree in Economics from Northern Michigan University and his Juris Doctor from The Thomas M. Cooley Law School.

Steven began his career in private practice, spending over five years working alongside his father and mentor, Dennis Cross, where he gained valuable experience in client service and the practice of law. He then went on to spend more than ten years in the Trust and Wealth Departments of local banks, developing a deep knowledge of trust administration and estate settlement. Today, he draws on both backgrounds to draft and guide documents that not only meet legal requirements but also truly work for families when they are needed most.

His approach to the law is straightforward and people-centered: clear advice, practical solutions, and steady guidance through life’s most important decisions.

Away from the office, Steven enjoys life in Northern Michigan with his wife, Amy, and their four children. Together, they stay busy with school, sports, and the beauty of the lakeshore—reminders of why strong families and communities matter most.
