Steven Cross is the founder of Cross + Compass, PLC in Petoskey, Michigan. His practice focuses on estate planning, estate and trust administration, real estate, and matters involving cottages and family property.

Before founding Cross + Compass, Steve spent more than a decade working in bank trust and wealth departments, where his work included trust administration, estate settlement, fiduciary responsibilities, and working with families and beneficiaries. That experience provides a perspective that extends beyond preparing legal documents - he has seen firsthand how estate plans operate when they eventually need to be carried out.

His practice often involves issues that do not fit neatly into a single category. An estate plan may involve a family cottage. A trust administration may require the transfer or sale of real estate. A property transaction may have estate planning or succession implications. Looking at those issues together allows Steve to help clients consider the larger picture.

Steve earned his Juris Doctor from Thomas M. Cooley Law School and undergraduate degree in Economics and Mathematics from Northern Michigan University. He has been a member of the State Bar of Michigan since 2009 and is admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Western District of Michigan.

Northern Michigan is not simply where Steve practices. It is home. He is a Past President of the Rotary Club of Petoskey and serves on the Board of the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra.
